Changes to the Family and Medical Leave Act

On Monday, January 30, 2012, Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis announced that the U.S. Department of Labor will soon issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for the purpose of implementing new statutory amendments to the Family and Medical Leave Act.  These changes, which result from the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 (NDAA 2010) and other recent laws, expand the availability of FMLA covered leave for families of military servicemen and women and certain veterans, as well as adds a special eligibility provision for airline flight crew employees.  One can read the News Release at http://www.dol.gov/opa/media/press/whd/WHD20120177.htm and preview the anticipated Notice at http://www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/NPRM/FMLA_NPRM_2012.pdf .
