Defined Benefit Pension Plan
Actuarial Valuation and Administration Services
Our actuarial department provides full service actuarial valuation and administrative services for pension plans, both qualified (traditional plans, cash balance plans, etc) and nonqualified (supplemental executive retirement plans, or SERP arrangements), in each of the specific ways listed here:
- Plan funding requirement calculations based on annual valuations of the plan's liabilities
- Preparation of annual and year-end actuarial accounting information for the plan under Statement of Financial Standards No. 87, No. 88 and No. 132R or for public entities, Governmental Accounting Standards No. 25 and No. 27
- Government forms preparation required annually, including Form 5500, PBGC premium filings, IRS Forms 945, 1096, and 1099-R
- Drafting of notifications, or other communications, for participants and regulatory entities including summary plan descriptions, summaries of material plan modifications, summary annual reports, Form 5310 filings, Form 5330 filings, event-related PBGC notices, etc.
- Calculation of participant benefit information upon termination of employment, death or disability
- Preparation of annual statements to pension plan participants
- Assistance with Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs)
- Plan audit assistance
- Recordkeeping
- Employee meeting attendance and presentations

Retiree Healthcare Actuarial Services
For employers who provide postretirement medical, dental, prescription drug, life insurance, or other benefits, our actuarial group can assist with a number of projects related to these arrangements:
- Preparation of annual and year-end actuarial accounting information for a plan under Statement of Financial Standards No. 106 and No. 132R or for public entities, Government Accounting Standard No. 43 and No. 45
- Attestation of actuarial equivalence of prescription drug plans to Medicare Part D plans for the purpose of applying for retiree prescription drug subsidies from the government

Actuarial Analysis, Plan Design and Regulatory Compliance Services
In addition to the services outlined previously, our actuarial group can also provide services requested on demand rather than on a recurring basis. Examples are included below:

Expert Witness Testimony on Actuarial Matters
Our actuaries provide testimony in court cases where actuarial or employee benefit expertise is required. An example of such testimony includes wrongful death cases, or other circumstances, requiring the calculation of the value of lost compensation.
